In a job search, your resume plays an important part. It highlights to prospective employers, your qualifications and strengths, and can entice them to call you in for an interview. However, when you apply for an job, your resume could be just one of hundreds.

Recruiting for the right candidate can be very time consuming, sometimes lacking the time to examine every resume in depth, the hiring manager or hr recruiter may give each resume only a quick once-over.

So, how can you ensure that your resume stands out?

Using bright pink text is one option, but not a good one, since youre likely to come across as most unprofessional.
Instead, try following this advice.

Use a clean, easy to read format.

Your resume should be easy to follow, with easy to read sections. Try using headings for your main ideas and bullet points for specific sections. Do not try to cram in too much information by using small fonts, and incorporate plenty of blank white space so the page does not look like a sea of type.

Use just one font.

Different typefaces used in your text can be tricky and best left to designers, and use italics sparingly, bear in mind that underlined text and all capitals can be hard to read.

Many employers ask applicants to copy and paste a resume into the body of an e-mail rather than including it as an attachment. In these special instances, strip out formatting such as bullets, boldface and italic type to ensure the resume can be read on your computer system first.

Keep your resume short.

Unless you have many years of experience and applying for a high-level post, try keeping your resume to one or two pages. Save space and impress the recruiting manager --ween anything not germane to the job your seeking.
Leave off, biographic details such as you hobbies, personal details and the things like the names of your family members etc.

Concentrate on the company.

Concentrate on the value you can bring to the company and what it will gain from hiring you, not the expectations you have.

Do not forget to use keywords.

Your resume at Job Classified is placed into a local database and can be searched for keywords relevant to the job you seek. This technology helps employers to quickly evaluate job applicants. Examples of keywords include specific responsibilities, job titles, computer programs, or certifications.

Place your keywords into the text of your job history, but make sure what you write is accurate and not over the top. Do not over do it with keywords, the resume will look contrived, which could be more off-putting as not including enough.

When selecting keywords, be aware of some spam filters. Look out for words that could sound like a sweepstakes or marketing promotion. These can trigger a spam filter that places your resume into the junk mail folder. Instead of saying  "winning awards" or "you won prizes," say you were "formally recognized" for your accomplishments.

Stress your accomplishments.

Provide your professional achievements, state how you affected a former companys bottom line. Including cost savings, budget, improvement in productivity, amount of projects completed and similar. By providing your accomplishments, you demonstrate to hiring managers concrete evidence of your abilities.

Although most employers like to see a solid success record, it is a mistake to inflate your accomplishments, inventing certifications and software expertise you do not possess is a bad idea. The truth will always emerge through the most basic background check, the consequences can be serious.

Misspellings.

Be sure to check that your resume contains no misspellings. This shows a lack of attention to detail. On a high-level job resume, it has been known that one typo would disqualify a candidate from consideration. A good idea is to ask an eagle-eyed friend or family member to go over your resume.

After the employer has seen your resume.

If you fail to hear from the company in a couple of weeks, follow up with an e-mail or phone call. Follow-up contact will reinforce your interest in the position and demonstrate initiative, it sometimes prompts the hiring manager to give your resume a second look.
